WCCF Creates Friends of White County

Just as your grocery store, bank, gas station, and doctor must set aside an annual amount to operate a business, so must your White County Community Foundation set aside some money each year for operations – what might be called “core costs.”   What is different – and wonderful – about WCCF is that we are building an operating endowment, a permanent WCCF Fund which when it holds sufficient assets will each year support the Foundation’s operations using only the Fund’s annual earnings. 

WCCF has created The Friends of White County to honor our special friends who make gifts to the White County Community Foundation’s Operating Endowment Fund.  We invite you to join The Friends of White County with a gift that will help WCCF sustain its operations and expand its services to meet ever-increasing community needs, and also to consider a multi-year pledge:

• $2,500 +                      Wellspring (a source of unfailing supply)
• $1,000-$2,499             Capstone (the finishing stone of a structure)
• $500-$999                   Column (a pillar of support)
• $250-$499                   Foundation (the base on which a structure stands)

If you know what makes the White County Community Foundation a unique partner in the community’s development efforts to strengthen White County, you know that:

• Since WCCF’s beginnings in 1998, WCCF has made grants of nearly $4 million from generous donors’ funds and Lilly Endowment matching grants program. 
• From its donors’ funds, WCCF has awarded over $139,000 in community scholarships since 1998 to college-bound graduates of White County high schools; from the Lilly Endowment Scholarship Fund that WCCF administers, we have sent an amazing 25 White County grads to four years of college, tuition-free!
• One of our grants this year funded the Helping Hands Program at White County Council on Aging; Gale Spry, Executive Director of WCCOA, praised the 42 volunteers who lend a “helping hand” to the homebound elderly and infirm, lift their spirits, and perform much-needed support.

Currently, earnings from the Foundation’s $3 million in assets provide about 20% of our operating budget.  Our goal is to provide $100,000 yearly from the Operating Endowment’s earnings to completely support all administrative, marketing, and program expenses.
